Oglethorpe blanks Whitworth men 3-0

ATLANTA, Ga.— Oglethorpe University got three first half goals to defeat visiting Whitworth 3-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates dropped to 1-2-1 after going 0-2 in Atlanta, while the Stormy Patrels improved to 3-1-1.

Oglethorpe's Ben Alram found the net in the 4th minute thanks to an assist by Dylan Bapst. Javier Aponte scored in the 7th minute giving the Stormy Petrel's an early 2-0 lead. Jake Locklear was credited with the assist.

The Pirates had opportunities to score but attempts did not get past Oglethorpe's goalkeeper Ethan Harrison.

Ian Farquhar scored the third goal for the Stormy Petrel's in the 31st minute. Felipe Araujo assisted.

Oglethorpe outshot Whitworth 14-10 in total shots and 7-6 in shots on goal.

Pirates goalkeeper Andrew Wolotira was credited with three saves in 45 minutes played. Bo Broyles had one save in 45 minutes played. Oglethorpe's Harrison had six saves in 90 minutes played.

The Pirates will play their final non-conference match on Wednesday at 4:30 PM against Walla Walla University in College Place, Wash.
