ATLANTA — Whitworth men's soccer fell 2-1 to Covenant College in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at Oglethorpe University.
The Pirates struck quickly with a goal by Beckett Arthur in the 1st minute. Benjamin Hippauf was credited with the assist.
Covenant's Kade Theunissen found the back of the net to even the match in the 26th minute.
Jay Patterson scored in the 78th minute to give the Scots the 2-1 win. Knox Gibson was credited with the assist.
The Pirates had an opportunity to score in the 89th minute but Victor Loyola's header shot did not get past the Scot's goalkeeper Will Hicks.
The Scots outshot the Pirates 11-10, including 5-2 in shots on target.
Pirates goalkeeper Andrew Wolotira was credited with three saves in 90 minutes played. Hicks got one save for the Scots in 90 minutes played.
The Pirates will play next on Sunday at 1:00 PM (ET) against Oglethorpe in Atlanta, Ga.
