SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth track & field teams prepped for next week's Northwest Conference Championships by posting several season-best marks on Thursday afternoon and evening at the 2022 Whitworth Twilight, despite cold and breezy conditions.

Amelia Hewson finished as runner up in both the 200-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles.  Her time in the 200 dash (25.73) is the best of the season for the Pirates and also ranks among the top five in the conference.  She went 14.59 in the hurdles, just off her season-best mark of 14.25.  Allison Ball finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 26.18, just off her season best of 25.90.

Madelyn Buckley finished 11th in a deep field in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:54.16, the best of the year for Whitworth.

The Pirate women also had several strong showings in the field events.  Renee Tiumalu won the women's shot put with a mark of 39'-8.5".  Lauran Rawls tossed the discus 134'-10" to finish in second place and Abby Jo Carlson posted a distance of 161'-10" in the hammer throw to finish third.  Both marks for Rawls and Carlson now lead the NWC.

Camron Lantagne and Kainoa Figueira went 51.16 and 51.27, respectively, in the 400.  Lantagne's time surpasses Figueira's 51.20 from earlier this season as the best of the year for Whitworth and also ranks among the top 5 in the NWC.

Reed Hurst had another strong meet, finishing second in the discus (146-11) and fourth in the shot put (47-4.25), both just off his season-best marks.  Benjamin Brinkley won the javelin throw with a distance of 169'-1", but he was well off his season-best performance (185'-10").

Ignacio Garcia threw the hammer 158'-5" to finish fifth and set a new season standard for the Pirates.  That mark also ranks second in the NWC.

Samson Irish-Lodge finished third in the long jump with a season-best distance of 21'-2.75".

Whitworth will now turn its attention to the 2022 Northwest Conference Championships, which will take place on April 23-24 at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.  The Pirate men have already scored 19 points toward that meet based on results from the NWC Multi-Events on Monday and Tuesday.  Whitworth's women have six points.
