Pirates Fall at Willamette in NWC Lacrosse Opener

SALEM, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth fell to Willamette 17-3 in the Northwest Conference lacrosse opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (2-0, 1-0) jumped to a 7-1 lead over the Pirates (1-2, 0-1) in the first quarter.

Anna Chase scored for the Bucs to get Whitworth within 2-1 early.  But Maddie Garcia scored three times in the first period to spark a 7-1 lead.

The scoring run continued to 10-1 for Willamette before Liliann Penfield scored her first of the year to get the Bucs to within 10-2.  The Bearcats led 11-2 at halftime.

Abby Hahn scored for Whitworth in the third to make the score 13-3, it was her second of the season.

Lily Bachiochi led Willamette with five goals, while Garcia and Laura Kelly had four goals each.

The Pirates will complete their trip to Oregon with a match at Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday.
