NEWBURG, Ore. – Defending Northwest Conference champion George Fox shut out visiting Whitworth 9-0 in a men's tennis match on Saturday.

The Bruins improved to 3-1 overall in their NWC opener.  The Pirates dropped to 0-9, 0-2.

George Fox dominated in doubles, dropping only two games.  Ethan Violette and Joe Greco lost 8-0 at #1 doubles, only a day after winning their doubles contest at Whitman.  Cameron Brewer and Ethan Warring lost 8-1 at #2 and Nathan Tjelle and Austin Alteneder fell by the same score at #3.

The Bruins won four of the singles matches at zero in straight sets.  Greco played the most competitive match at #3 singles, falling 6-0, 6-3.

Whitworth will return home to host Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran in a pair of NWC matches next weekend.
