Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Big second quarter lifts lacrosse to third win

DALLAS – Visiting Whitworth University used a big second quarter to pull away for an 18-5 win over the University of Dallas in a non-conference women's lacrosse match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates (3-4) outscored the Crusaders (1-6) 9-0 in the second period as part of a 13-0 run over the second and third quarters.

Whitworth will return to Northwest Conference play next weekend at George Fox and Linfield.

The Pirates scored the first three goals of the match on tallies by Abby Hahn, Liliann Penfield and Anna Chase.  But Dallas pulled to within 3-2 after one quarter.  Sophia Haeuser and Teagan Walsh scored for the Crusaders.

Madison Perry scored only ten seconds into the second quarter, setting the stage for Whitworth's big period.  Perry, Kylee Walker and Hahn all had two goals each in the second period as Whitworth took a 12-2 lead at halftime.

Grace Schmidt scored her first goal of the season three and a half minutes into the third period, followed by goals from Rebecca Irwin, Walker and Perry.  The 13-0 scoring run increased Whitworth's lead to 16-2.  Dallas broke the run in the final minute of the third on a goal by Haueser.

Chase scored again 30 seconds into the fourth quarter and Sidney Nichols scored when the Pirates were up a player halfway through the period to cap Whitworth's scoring.

Perry, Chase, Hahn and Walker all scored three goals apiece to lead the Pirates' balanced scoring attack.  Walker led the Bucs with three of the team's seven assists.

Whitworth outshot Dallas 39-12 and forced 18 turnovers by the hosts.

In its fourth season of play, Whitworth has won more than two games for the first time in school history.
