Lacrosse Loses at Southwestern 21-4

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern University outscored visiting Whitworth 7-0 in the third quarter to break open a non-conference women's lacrosse match in a 21-4 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Pirates fell to 2-4 after dropping the opener of a two-game trip to Texas for Spring Break.  The host Pirates improved to 9-1.

The hosts led 5-0 after one quarter with five different players scoring goals.  Emma Pertuit scored the game's first goal and assisted on the fifth goal of the period.  Southwestern outshot Whitworth 10-1 in the quarter.  The Bucs showed the rustiness of not playing a match since March 12th.

Anna Chase, Kenzie Hemman and Kylee Walker all scored in the second period for Whitworth.  The Pirates scored on three of their four shots and maintained possession much more effectively.  Southwestern scored five more goals and had a 10-3 lead at the break.  Deanna Hames had three of those goals in the period and four by halftime.

Southwestern put the game away by outscoring Whitworth 7-0 in the third period.  Raven Garcia and Raquel Kurth each had two for the host Pirates.

Brooke Folliard scored twice for Southwestern in the fourth.  Liliann Penfield tallied the game's final goal for Whitworth in the final minute.

Southwestern finished with a 31-9 edge in shots and had an 18-10 advantage in draw controls.

Whitworth will take on the University of Dallas on Sunday.
