SPOKANE, Wash.— The Whitworth men's soccer team scored three times in the first half to shut out the visiting Linfield Wildcats 3-0 in Northwest Conference play on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates (5-4-2, 3-2-1) were efficient in the first half against the Wildcats (4-6-1, 3-2-1 NWC), scoring three times off of six shots taken.
Tyler Wisen had a pair of goals, scoring first in the 11th minute after Eric Shaporda's deflected shot fell in front of an open net.
Wisen found his second goal of the match in the 14th minute off a pass from Beckett Arthur to put the Pirates up 2-0.
Jaime Rodriguez had the Pirates' third goal of half in the 36th minute after taking advantage of the Wildcats' failed clearing of the box.
The Pirates outshot the Wildcats 13-6 in total shots taken and 6-0 on shots on goal.
Whitworth's defense was strong against the Wildcats, not allowing a single shot on goal. Neither Andrew Wolotira or Aiden Chase had to make a stop in goal for the Bucs. Henry Boudreaux had three saves in 90 minutes for Linfield.
The Pirates will play next on the road against Whitman on Saturday at 2:30PM.
