PORTLAND, Ore.— The visiting Whitworth Pirates men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Willamette University Bearcats in a Northwest Conference match on Sunday afternoon.
Whitworth (6-6-2, 4-4-1 NWC) had a last-second chance to force a draw but Sterling Eaglin's shot didn't get past Willamette's (10-1-2, 8-1-0 NWC) goalkeeper Pierluca Carnovale.
The Bearcats and Pirates battled to keep the match scoreless at the half.
Northwest Conference leading scorer Pierce Gallaway found the match-winning goal for the Bearcats in the 59th minute.
Willamette outshot the Pirates 22-11 in total shots taken and 9-4 on shots on goal.
Pirate goalkeeper Aiden Chase was credited with a career-high eight saves in 90 minutes played. Willamette's Carnovale had four.
Willamette swept Whitworth in two matches this season with a combined score of 3-1.
Whitworth will play next at home against UPS on Saturday at 2:30 PM
