SPOKANE, Wash.— The Whitworth men's soccer team shutout the visiting Puget Sound Loggers 3-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates (7-6-2, 5-4-1 NWC) and Loggers (7-4-4, 3-4-2 NWC) fought to a scoreless first half before Whitworth dominated with three goals in the final forty-five.
Whitworth's
Tyler Wisen found his fifth goal of the season off a pass from
Sterling Eaglin in the 52 minute.
Eaglin found his own goal in the 63rd minute to give the Pirates a comfortable 2-0 lead over the Loggers.
Jamie Rodriguez was able to control a free kick that deflected off a Logger defender to find
Jordan Voigt who scored the third goal of the match in the 77th minute.
Whitworth outshot Puget Sound 18-8 in total shots taken and 10-1 in shots on target.
Logger goalkeeper
Ryan Saunders had seven saves in 90 minutes played.
Andrew Wolotira had one in 83 minutes played for the Pirates.
Whitworth will play next at home on Sunday against Pacific Lutheran at 2:30 PM.
