MCMINNVILLE, Ore.— The visiting Whitworth Pirates shut out the Linfield Wildcats 2-0 in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.
Linfield and Whitworth fought to a scoreless first half, but two quick goals in the final forty-five propelled the Pirates (6-5-2, 4-3-1 NWC) over the Wildcats (4-8-1, 3-4-1 NWC).
Beckett Arthur found his sixth goal of the season in the 65th minute to put Whitworth up 1-0.
Minutes later, Jamie Rodriguez connected with Chris Barry who found Whitworth's second goal of the match in the 68th minute.
Whitworth outshot Linfield 22-8 in total shots taken and 6-5 in shots on goal.
Pirate goalkeeper Aiden Chase had five saves in 90 minutes played. Linfield's Henry Boudreaux had four.
Whitworth swept Linfield in two matches this season by a combined score of 5-0.
The Pirates will take on undefeated Willamette on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
