Volleyball Wins in Four Sets at Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore.—The Whitworth volleyball team won in four sets at Linfield University unbeaten in the Northwest Conference. Maddie Lee had thirteen kills and Abigail Hudson had eight blocks to lift the Pirates to a 25-11, 25-21, 24-26, 25-12 win over the Wildcats.

Whitworth (8-2, 3-0 NWC) had a dominant showing in the first set. After breaking a 5-5 tie, the Pirates never trailed, producing an eleven-point run to bury the Wildcats 23-8. Saylor Anderson had three service aces during that run. Linfield recorded nine attack errors in the frame.

The teams traded service aces and errors in a much tighter second set. Whitworth had six attack errors and two service errors. The team finished the frame with a .158 average. The Wildcats didn't fare much better, with ten attack errors and three service errors. They finished with a -.093 attack average. The Pirates had one service ace to Linfield's three.

The Wildcats (4-6, 0-3) took advantage of the Pirate errors in the third set, capitalizing on six service errors and seven attack errors. Linfield made two service errors and five attack errors, but hit .229, their best team percentage of the night. Meanwhile, the Pirates hit .156, their worst performance of the night.

Whitworth pulled away again for a dominant finish to cap the match in the fourth set. The team recorded three service aces and six blocks to stifle Linfield's offense. They finished the set hitting .250. The Wildcats finished the frame hitting -.025.

Neither team played a clean match, with the Wildcats notching 33 attack errors, 12 service errors, and five blocking errors. The Pirates committed 18 attack errors, and six service errors. Whitworth finished the match with a .208 team hitting percentage to Linfield's .007.

Raelynn Hammock led the Wildcat offense with 13 kills and 15 digs.
