Men's Soccer Rolls Past Linfield 6-1

SPOKANE, Wash. - Dominic Gusman tallied three goals and an assist for Whitworth in a dominant 6-1 showing against Linfield University Sunday at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

The Pirates scored three goals in each half to improve to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the NWC.

Andyn Maldonado opened the game with his first goal of the season in the 12th minute from a Jonathan Guglielmetti assist.

Gusman scored his first goal of the match unassisted in the 19th minute to establish the Pirate lead.  Gusman followed it up with a 25th minute goal from an assist by Jacob Janzen to take a firm 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats (1-5, 0-2 NWC) kicked off the second half with Ronan Krutzikowski's first goal of the season. Cesar Cruz Espindola was credited with the assist.

Whitworth's offense came alive again in the second half with a Beckett Arthur 60th minute goal from a Gusman assist.

Gusman scored for the third time eight minutes later for his fifth goal of the season, also unassisted.

Beckett Arthur scored his second goal of the match and fifth of the season in the 85th minute on a penalty kick.

Linfield finished with 15 shots and nine on goal. The Pirates finished with 20 total shots, 15 of which were on goal.

Wildcat goalkeepers Payton Frazier and Julian Inches combined for nine saves, while Pirate goalkeepers Bo Broyles, Joshua Hill, and Andrew Wolotira combined for eight.

Whitworth travels to Tacoma next weekend to continue conference play at Puget Sound on Sept. 25.
