SPOKANE, Wash. – Hannah Plank's victory over Maggie Fiocchi lifted Whitworth University to its first women's tennis victory over Linfield College since 2011.

The Pirates (1-4) earned a 5-4 win over the Wildcats (2-2) in the non-conference contest at the Scotford Tennis Center. 

Whitworth took a 2-1 lead after doubles.  Avery Liening and Aleah Kert defeated Lexie Matsunaga and Haley Fujimori 8-5 at #1 doubles, while Lauren Ikeda and Froukje Lakerveld topped Sarah Forester and Allena Wong 8-5 at #3.

The Pirates won the top three singles matches to clinch the team victory.  Liening beat Matsunaga 6-2, 6-2 at #1 singles, while Kert defeated Taryn Fujimori 6-1, 6-3 at #2 singles.

That set up Plank's hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Fiocchi that gave the Bucs the insurmountable 5-1 advantage.

Whitworth will host Lewis & Clark College on March 20.
