Men' s Soccer Wins 4-1, Remains Unbeaten at Home

SPOKANE, Wash. – Beckett Arthur scored twice and Dominic Gusman added a goal and an assist to lead Whitworth to a 4-1 win over visiting George Fox in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates (5-4-1 overall, 4-2 NWC) remain unbeaten at home (5-0-1).  The Bruins (4-6, 2-4) split their weekend trip to Eastern Washington.

Arthur got Whitworth on the board in the tenth minute when he finished a cross from Gusman.  Gusman made it 2-0 in the 15th minute, taking a long pass forward from Christian Pumpelly and chipping over GFU goalkeeper Alex Muir.

Joshua Chang cut the lead in half in the 31st minute after dribbling around a pair of Pirate defenders and drilling the ball inside the right post.

Arthur extended the lead back to 3-1 when he drew a foul in the box and converted the penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

Ethan Kem put the match out of reach in the 48th minute with his first goal of the season.  Jose Bautista had the assist.

Arthur increased his team-leading goal total to nine, while Gusman now has seven goals and four assists.

Whitworth finished with a 14-10 advantage in shots, 12-8 in shots on-goal.  The Pirates doubled up the Bruins in corner kicks 6-3. 

Andrew Wolotira played the first 71 minutes in goal for the Bucs and made three saves.  Joshua Hill came on in the final 19 minutes and also made three stops.

Muir had seven saves in 76 minutes for the Bruins.

Whitworth will hit the road for a match at Whitman College next Saturday, looking for its first win away from home.
