PLU Shuts Out Whitworth Men 3-0

SPOKANE, Wash.—Pacific Lutheran scored twice in the second half to hand the Whitworth men's soccer team its first home loss of the season in its 3-0 Northwest Conference victory on Saturday.

The Lutes move to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in Northwest conference play, and Whitworth drops to 6-7-1 overall and 5-5 in NWC play.

Pacific Lutheran got on the board early in the first half with a 10th minute unassisted goal by Cris Lozano. Whitworth outshot the Lutes in the first half, recording six shots to the Lutes' five. Each team had two shots on goal.

The Lutes pulled away in the second half with a 65th minute goal by Kelly Brant, assisted by Lozano. Pacific Lutheran scored again in less than ten minutes when Sam Erickson put the ball into the low right corner of the goal. The goal was assisted by Archie Caldwell.

The Pirates again outshot the Lutes in the half, recording seven shots to Pacific Lutheran's five. Four of the Lute shots were on goal compared to Whitworth's three. The Pirates also had three corner kicks in the second half.

Nicholas Gaston recorded five saves for the Lutes in the match, and Bo Broyles recorded three for the Whitworth.

Whitworth takes the field again tomorrow to face off with University of Puget Sound at 2:30pm.
