FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth had the advantage in shots, but host Pacific had the advantage in goals as the Boxers beat the Pirates 3-0 in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.
Pacific (6-7-1 overall, 3-5-1 NWC) turned the tables on the Pirates (6-6-1, 5-4) from two weeks ago, when Whitworth won 2-0 in Spokane.
The Pirates finished with a 14-6 advantage in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. But goalkeeper Zach Aderinto stopped all five of those on-target attempts by the Bucs to post a shutout. Jaime Rodriguez had three total shots for Whitworth, two on goal. Dominic Gusman also had three shot attempts.
Aidan Heflin got the hosts on the board in the fifth minute when he scored unassisted into the left side of the net for his second goal of the season.
Lucas Miller also scored his second goal of the year, unassisted, at 43:00 to double the Boxers' lead.
Whitworth put on the pressure in the second half, outshooting Pacific 10-2. However, the Boxers got the only goal of the period when Cooper Sheakley scored on an assist by Noah Edwards.
Andrew Wolotira started in goal for the Pirates and played the first half. He made one save and allowed two goals. Bo Broyles played the second half and gave up one goal.
Whitworth returns home, where the Pirates are unbeaten this fall, to host Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound next weekend.
