NEWBERG, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth got a pair of second half goals in a 3-1 win at George Fox on Saturday afternoon, picking up the first road win of the season for the men's soccer team.
The Pirates improved to 6-5-1 overall and 5-3 in the NWC while the Bruins dropped to 4-8, 2-6.
Jaime Rodriguez scored in the 12th minute to give Whitworth a quick 1-0 lead. GFU's Alan Rincon tied the match in the 16th minute with his fourth goal of 2021.
Beckett Arthur tallied in the 72nd minute with a free kick into the bottom-left corner of the net for his conference-leading 10th goal of the year.
Victor Loyola added an insurance goal in the 77th minute, helping the Bucs sweep the two-game season series.
Whitworth had a 12-9 advantage in shots, including a 7-3 edge in shots on-goal.
Bo Broyles made two saves in his return to goal for the Pirates. Julian Ramirez made four stops for the Bruins.
Whitworth will try for a second straight road win when the Pirates battle Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
