Whitworth Women Suffer First NWC Loss

Spokane, Wash.– Whitworth University's women's tennis team suffered its first Northwest Conference loss of the 2019 season to Linfield 7-2 on Sunday in the Scotford Tennis Center. The Pirates are 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NWC.

Linfield (5-1, 2-0) jumped on the Bucs early by taking all three doubles wins. In the #1 spot, Erica Lee and Emma Jo Wiley fell 8-4.

Whitworth's Avery Liening defeated Riley Clayeux 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at #2 singles to give the Pirates their first point. The other win came from Jill Hughes in the #5 singles spot with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

The Pirates will travel to Oregon next weekend to face Lewis & Clark and George Fox for more NWC match ups.
