Pirate Women Push #7 Arizona Christian

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Whitworth women's tennis team put a scare into nationally-ranked Arizona Christian before falling 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

The Pirates dropped to 5-4 while the Firestorm, ranked 7th in the NAIA, improved to 18-0.

ACU won two of the three doubles matches.  Bella Hoyos and Saryn Mooney scored Whitworth's doubles point with an 8-4 win over Rafaella Zak Zak and Iulia Marcenco.  The Pirate pair of Taylor Peña and Jennifer Adams lost a close 8-5 decision at #1 doubles.

Hoyos also won at #3 singles for Whitworth, defeating Zak Zak 6-4, 6-1.  Morgan McDivitt gave the Bucs their second singles point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Julia Anaya at #6. 

Both Mooney (#2 singles) and Annabelle Burns (#5) went to three sets before losing their singles matches.

Whitworth will continue its trip to Southern California with a match at San Diego Christian on Thursday.
