Women's Tennis Drops Visiting Puget Sound

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth picked up its fourth women's tennis victory of the season with an 8-1 win over short-handed Puget Sound on Saturday at the Scotford Tennis Center.

The Pirates improved to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the NWC while the visiting Loggers dropped to 2-6, 1-6.

Whitworth led only 2-1 after the doubles matches despite the fact that UPS could not field a full team at #3 doubles and had to forfeit the point.  Caylee Lamm and Saryn Mooney gave the Bucs their doubles win by defeating Alison Goo and Farrell Ahlf 8-4 at #2.

But the Loggers' Elizabeth Chao and Tresa Bild knocked off Bella Hoyos and Morgan McDivitt 8-6 at #1 doubles.

The Pirates quickly regained momentum in singles.  Frist Hoyos shut out Bild 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles and Taylor Peña soon followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chao at #1 singles, increasing the team score to 4-1.

Mooney posted the match-clinching victory with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Ahlf at #2 singles.

Jennifer Adams won in straight sets at #4 and McDivit blanked Claire Fitzgerald 6-0, 6-0 at #5 to close out the Pirate victory.

Whitworth will host Pacific Lutheran on Sunday in the final home NWC match of the season.
