Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. - Pacific Lutheran scored in the 94th minute to earn a 2-1 overtime victory against visiting Whitworth in a match that featured three goals during the final 10 minutes of play on Sunday afternoon in western Washington.
Pacific Lutheran (15-2-1, 11-2-1 Northwest Conference) kept pace with Puget Sound atop the NWC standings while Whitworth (6-10-3, 4-8-3) played an overtime match for the third time over its last four games.
Lindsey Foster put the Pirates up 1-0 in the 85th minute, scoring an unassisted goal from 18 yards away on a shot that deflected off a Pacific Lutheran defender for her second goal of the season.
The Lutes responded right away, scoring just over 40 seconds later on a long-range strike by Machaela Graddy. The goal was Graddy's 10th of the season.
The Pirates had a corner kick opportunity in the 88th minute but neither team could find the back of the net again during regulation.
Taylor Lunde netted the match-winner for the Lutes with an assist from Megan Anderson just a few minutes into overtime, scoring from eight yards away for her eighth goal of the year.
Pacific Lutheran generated 17 shots in the match compared with nine for the Pirates. Each team had four shots during the first half before the Lutes held a 12-5 advantage in shots during the second half. Lunde's goal was the lone shot in overtime for either team.
For the match, the Lutes held a slight edge in shots on goal with five compared with four by Whitworth. The Pirates took four corner kicks in the match while Pacific Lutheran had two corner kick chances.
Whitworth goalkeeper Sienna Tanner and Pacific Lutheran netminder Takara Mitsui each totaled three saves.
The Pirates conclude the season on Senior Day next Saturday, hosting Lewis & Clark at noon.
