Lutes edge Pirate women 1-0

PARKLAND, Wash. – The visiting Whitworth women's soccer squad displayed another strong offensive performance but could not convert with a goal in Saturday's 1-0 Northwest Conference loss to Pacific Lutheran.

The Pirates (3-7-8 overall, 3-6-6 NWC) had 18 shots and seven shots on goal, both more than the Lutes (11-2-6, 11-0-4 NWC), who withstood the pressure and earned their 13th straight win over the Bucs.

PLU scored in the eighth minute when Olivia Boehm fed Liv Olson for her 10th goal of the season and second game-winning goal against the Pirates, the first coming on October 12th in Spokane.

A flurry of Whitworth chances came early in the second half as the Bucs fired four shots in 30 seconds. Lily Parker fired a shot that was blocked before sending a second shot off the left post. Rebekah Hines followed with a shot off the crossbar and Parker sent yet another shot toward the net that ended the threat with a Lute goal kick. The Whitworth defense held PLU to two shots on goal in the second half.

Despite being held off the scoreboard, the Pirates finished with an 18-13 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Lutes earned eight corners to Whitworth's five.

Hines led the Pirates with four shots and two on goal. Katherine Kent, Lily Cardenas, and Parker each added three shots. Karlee Roderick made three saves at goalkeeper.

Six different players had a shot on goal to lead PLU. Goalkeeper Abby Winkler made seven saves in the shutout effort.

The Pirates close the season against Puget Sound on Sunday.
