Pirate women fall 1-0 to UPS in season finale

TACOMA, Wash. – Vistiting Whitworth closed the 2025 women's soccer season with a 1-0 loss to Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference match on Sunday at Baker Stadium.

The Pirates finished the season with a 3-8-8 overall record and 3-6-7 record in conference play, good for sixth place. The Loggers finished an unbeaten NWC season (12-0-4) and share the title with Pacific Lutheran. Based on the conference tiebreaker, Puget Sound will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

UPS played a strong offensive match and scored the game-winning goal in the third minute. Zoe Witter sent the ball into the back of an open net after it was mishandled in front. The Bucs were held without a shot in the first half.

The Whitworth offense generated some chances in the second half with a shot on goal from Grace Hansen and Alexa Deatherage, but goalkeeper Gianna Maldonado saved both.

Whitworth finished with a season-low three shots. Puget Sound had 19 shots and twelve on target, the most allowed by the Pirates this season.

Hansen, Deatherage and Lily Cardenas took the three Whitworth shots. Paige Broadrick made one save in 11 minutes at goalkeeper. Karlee Roderick played 78 minutes and made a season-high ten saves with the lone goal allowed.

Leila Hausia-Haugen led the Logger attack with nine shots and six on goal.

The Whitworth women will begin the 2026 season next August.
