Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. - Puget Sound's Amalia Acorda-Fey recorded a hat trick to lead the No. 16 Loggers in a 3-0 win over visiting Whitworth on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University.
Poor weather and field conditions forced adjustments to the game start time and location. The game had originally been scheduled for 11 a.m. before it was rescheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. The location was moved across town from Puget Sound's field to the turf surface soccer field at Pacific Lutheran University.
With the win, Puget Sound (13-0-4, 9-0-4 Northwest Conference) remained in a tie atop the standings with Pacific Lutheran. Whitworth (6-9-3, 4-7-3) was held scoreless for the second consecutive match.
Acorda-Fey scored in the ninth minute with an assist off a cross from teammate Jacquelyn Anderson to put Puget Sound on the scoreboard.
The Loggers doubled the lead with a 22nd-minute goal when a Puget Sound shot was deflected into the goal by Acorda-Fey.
In the 72nd minute, Acorda-Fey scored her third goall via a free kick from 25 yards out. The Loggers had a breakaway opportunity and goalkeeper Andrea Stump came out of the 18-yard box to contest the play with a slide tackle. Her tackle resulted in a red card and Acorda-Fey scored on the ensuing free kick. The Pirates were forced to make a goalkeeper substitution and play with 10 players for the remainder of the contest.
Puget Sound totaled 17 shots in the match with 12 shots on goal. The Pirates were held to six shots and managed just one shot on goal. Tiara Pajimola led Whitworth with four shot attempts and Hannah Bokma added two shots.
Stump collected nine saves before being replaced by Sienna Tanner in the 72nd minute. Tanner made one save over the final 18 minutes of play. Puget Sound goalkeeper Lauren Thomas made one save.
The Pirates will play at PLU for the second consecutive day on Sunday, this time facing Pacific Lutheran. Kickoff is set for noon.
