SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's tennis team extended its Northwest Conference match winning streak to eight in a row with a 9-0 victory over visiting George Fox on Saturday at the Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates improved to 10-3 overall and 8-0 in the NWC. The Bruins dropped to 6-10, 2-7.
Whitworth rolled through the three doubles matches in just over 30 minutes. Hannah Wallin and Anabelle Burns shut out Ilsa Teppo and Shelby Arnold 8-0 at #3 doubles. Bella Hoyos and Morgan McDivitt doubled up Ali Diehl and Megan Dahlberg 8-4 at #2 doubles. And Taylor Peña and Saryn Mooney defeated Alyssa Emoto and Krista Rey 8-2 at #1 doubles.
The team victory was clinched rather quickly during singles play. McDivitt beat Arnold zero and zero at #5. Caylee Lamm followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Teppo at #6 to give the Bucs a 5-0 score and clinch the match.
Hoyos was just as dominant at #3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Dahlberg.
The only singles match to go more than one set came at #4 where Burns rallied for a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) win over Diehl.
Whitworth will take on Lewis & Clark on Sunday morning at 10:00 am.
