SALEM, Ore. – Annabelle Burns and Caylee Lamm each won twice on Friday afternoon to lead visiting Whitworth to a 7-2 win over Willamette in Northwest Conference women's tennis action.
The Pirates improved to 12-4 overall and 10-1 in the NWC while the Bearcats dropped to 5-8, 3-8.
Burns teamed with Hannah Wallin to win 8-6 at #2 doubles. Lam and KC McConnell won 8-1 at #3 doubles. Willamette earned a point when Sabrina Gutierrez and Denise Poltavski beat Taylor Peña and Saryn Mooney 8-3 at #1 doubles.
Burns earned her second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Nebraska Lucas at #4 singles. Likewise, Lamm picked up her second point when she topped Taylor Coggeshall 6-2, 6-0 at #6 singles.
Bella Hoyos (#3 singles) and Morgan McDivitt (#5) also earned wins for the Bucs. Peña got a measure of revenge when she defeated Gutierrez 6-3, 7-5 at #1 singles.
Poltavski edged Mooney 6-3, 6-4 at #2 singles.
Whitworth will finish the regular season at Linfield on Saturday. That match will determine the #2 and #3 seeds to next week's NWC tournament.
