Whit Women Edge ACU 5-4

CERRITOS, Calif. – The Whitworth women's tennis team opened its Spring Break trip to California with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Arizona Christian on Sunday at the Cerritos Tennis Center.

Taylor Peña and Saryn Mooney pulled out an 8-5 win over Rafaella Zak Zak and Jessica Trink at #1 doubles for the final margin of victory.

The teams played singles first and the teams split those matches 3-3.  Bella Hoyos (#3), Caylee Lamm and KC McConnell won the singles matches for Whitworth.

After Hoyos and Anabelle Burns won 8-3 at #2 doubles for a 4-3 lead, ACU tied the match with an 8-4 win at #3 doubles, setting up the drama at #1.

Whitworth will continue its trip to California with a match at Hope International on Monday afternoon.
