FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Whitworth women's tennis team completed its three-game swing through Oregon with two more victories on Saturday. The Pirates won 6-3 at Lewis & Clark on Saturday morning, then topped Pacific 9-0 on Saturday evening.
The Pirates improved to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the Northwest Conference.
Taylor Peña and Morgan McDivitt had big days for Whitworth. Both won each of their singles matches and also earned a pair of doubles points for Whitworth. In the morning match at Lewis & Clark, Peña defeated Olivia Sweetman 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles after she and Saryn Mooney beat Claudia Lew and Makena McCluskey 8-4 at #1 doubles. Then she and Mooney edged Pacific's Kaitlyn Lomartire and Francesca Battaglia 9-8 at #1 doubles. Peña closed out her day with a 6-1, 6-1 romp over Battaglia at #2 singles.
McDivitt beat L&C's McCluskey 6-1, 7-5 at #3 singles and Pacific's Danielle Wicks 6-0, 6-0 at #4. She and Bella Hoyos won 8-1 over the Pioneer pair of Theresa Grigsby and Allison Schneider at #2 doubles, then won 8-0 at Pacific.
Whitworth will play an exhibition match against CC of Spokane next Saturday before returning to official NWC play with home contests against Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran on March 14-15.
