TUALTIN, Ore. – Whitworth ran its women's tennis winning streak to three in a row as the Pirates dominated George Fox 8-1 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Club on Friday night.
Whitworth improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Northwest Conference, handing the Bruins (3-1, 2-1) their first conference loss of the season.
The Pirates took two of the three doubles matches, then swept through the singles contests without giving up a set.
Bella Hoyos and Morgan McDivitt gave the Bucs an early lead with an 8-4 win over Taylor Barnes and Krista Rey at #2 doubles. Megan Dahlberg and Ali Diehl briefly tied the match 1-1 with an 8-3 win over Caylee Lamm and Hannah Wallin at #3. Then Saryn Mooney and Taylor Peña gave Whitworth a lead it would not relinquish with an 8-2 win over Alyssa Emoto and Chantelle Hadeed at #1.
The first singles match completed was McDivitt's 6-2, 6-0 win over Rey at #4. Mooney was close behind with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emoto at #1. Then Peña clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Hadeed at #2 singles.
Hoyos completed a 6-1, 6-3 win over Barnes at #3. Anabelle Burns defeated Dahlberg 6-0, 6-2 at #5 and Lamm closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Diehl at #6.
Whitworth will play two matches on Saturday. The Pirates are at Lewis & Clark in the morning, then at Pacific University in the afternoon.
