Box Score SALEM, Ore. - Katie Bischoff's golden-goal match winner in overtime lifted Whitworth to a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over Willamette on Saturday afternoon.
Whitworth (6-11-1, 5-9-0 NWC) earned its first come-from behind win of the season as Megan McCart scored an equalizing goal in 49th minute before Bischoff netted the match-winner. Willamette (2-14-1, 1-11-1) suffered its eighth-straight loss.
Willamette took an early lead in the 14th minute when Sarah Desautels scored her second goal of the year from 18 yards away off an assist from Kinsey Keene.
McCart scored her second goal of the season just after halftime, crossing a ball toward the goal which deflected off the Willamette goalkeeper into the upper right corner of the net.
Bischoff, a freshman, scored her first career Whitworth goal in the 92nd minute off a free kick outside of the 18-yard box near the left corner of the field. She sent a hooking shot to the near post in the upper left corner of the net from roughly 20 yards away.
Tiara Pajimola was fouled on a slide tackle to set up the free kick opportunity. A yellow card was given on the play, one of three yellow cards awarded in the match. The Bearcats committed 16 fouls while the Pirates committed eight fouls.
Andrea Stump collected four saves for the Pirates. Willamette held a 13-8 shot advantage, but each team generated five shots on goal.
The Pirates improved to 1-1-1 in overtime contests this season, and earned their first non-shutout win of 2014. Whitworth has held its opponent scoreless in six contests this season, and has won five of those matches.
"It was a good win for the team to get," head coach Jael Hagerott said of Whitworth earning its first comeback win. "Overall, we played very well from the back to the front."
The Pirates avenged a 1-0 loss to the Bearcats at home earlier this season to earn a split of the season series.
Whitworth will play its last regular season road contest on Sunday at Lewis & Clark. The Pirates host George Fox on Nov. 8 during Senior Day.
