Box Score LEWISTON, Idaho – Whitworth rallied to force a fifth set, but Lewis-Clark State held off the visiting Pirates in a non-conference volleyball match on Friday Night at the LCSC Activity Center.
The Warriors improved to 11-7 while the Pirates (11-5) saw their four-match winning streak come to an end. The final set scores were 25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 15-12.
LCSC was taller at the net, finishing with 9.0 team blocks (1 solo, 16 assists). But the Bucs were the scrappier squad, digging up 92 balls. However, Whitworth could not overcome a poor serving night and 15 service errors may have led to the defeat. The match ended on a Pirate service error.
"We played tough and were able to stay in rallies with our defense," said Whitworth head coach Kati Bodecker. "Our serving errors prevented us from going on runs. We were trying to serve tough to take them out of system. We played really well at times but we were just too inconsistent tonight."
Brenna Bruil led Whitworth with 17 kills and a .467 hitting percentage. Nicole Leonard added 13 kills and a team-high 24 digs. Maddye Dinsmore, the current NWC Player of the Week, dished 48 assists.
Desiree Nielson led LCSC with 13 kills and hit .480, while Treneisha Doyle added 11 kills. Chelsea Strong led all players with one solo block and six block-assists.
"This was a good match for us to see what we need to continue to improve as we approach this weekend," Bodecker said.
Whitworth returns to action on Friday, hosting George Fox in a Northwest Conference contest at the Fieldhouse.
