Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. - Pacific Lutheran scored a goal in each half, earning a 2-0 victory over visiting Whitworth on Sunday afternoon and remaining in a first-place tie atop the conference standings.
Whitworth (4-10-1, 3-8 NWC) lost back-to-back games for the first time since late September while Pacific Lutheran (10-3-1, 8-2), ranked at No. 25 nationally in the most recent NSCAA poll, kept pace with crosstown rival Puget Sound in the battle for the conference title.
The Pirates began the season with a stretch of 13 consecutive games in which they did not allow a first-half goal. Puget Sound broke the streak on Saturday and the Lutes became the second-straight team to score in the first half against Whitworth on Sunday.
Kaylie Rozell gave Pacific Lutheran a lead in the 34th minute. She was on the receiving end of a corner kick sent in from the left corner, drilling a shot to the right side of the goal from inside the box. Lena Moreno assisted the goal, which was the fifth of the season for Rozell.
Machaela Graddy added a goal in the 80th minute, winning a ball from a Whitworth defender and scoring her fourth goal of the year.
Pacific Lutheran took 16 shots compared with four by the Pirates, and held a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Andrea Stump made eight saves for Whitworth.
The Pirates have five regular-season games remaining, and return home next weekend to face Pacific (Ore.) and Linfield.
