SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's tennis team bounced back from a heart-breaking loss at Pacific Lutheran last Saturday night with a strong 8-1 win over visiting George Fox tonight.

With the win the Pirates improved to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the Northwest Conference and stay in the hunt for an NWC tournament spot.  The Bruins fell to 3-7, 2-6.

Whitworth took a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches.  Jessi Steele and MC McConnell had little trouble with Chantelle Hadeed and Ali Diehl in an 8-1 victory at #3 doubles.  Megan Wingfield and Morgan McDivitt pulled out an 8-5 win over Alyssa Emoto and Krista Rey at #2 doubles.  But the GFU pair of Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn rallied to slip past Saryn Mooney and Taylor Peña 9-8 (7-3) at #1 doubles for the Bruins' only point.

Only two of the six singles matches went past two sets.  McDivitt earned a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win over Rey at #5 singles while Mooney topped Beaumont 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) at #1 singles.

Steele ran past Emoto 6-1, 6-4 at #2 singles while Peña defeated Inn 6-2, 6-1 at #3.  Wingfield nearly shutout Hadeed 6-0, 6-2 at #4 and McConnell rolled Alissandra Wittrig 6-3, 6-2 at #6.

The Pirates will look to make it two in a row when they host Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday.
