TACOMA, Wash. – Four different Pirates won two matches each to lead visiting Whitworth to a 6-3 win at Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Friday night.
The Pirates improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the NWC. The Loggers fell to 2-1, 2-1 while suffering their first loss of the season.
Saryn Mooney and Taylor Peña combined to beat Josephine Dow and Maddie Thiesse 8-6 in the #1 doubles match. Megan Wingfield and Morgan McDivitt doubled up Malia Ford and Allison Embernate 8-4 at #3 doubles. UPS got its only doubles point when Logan Thompson and Marissa Friedman edged Jessi Steele and Annika Westre 8-6 at #3.
All four of the Pirates' doubles winners also won their singles matches. Mooney beat Thiesse 6-2, 6-3 at #1 and Peña swept Friedman 6-2, 6-4 at #3.
Wingfield pulled out the longest match of the night, beating Dow 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5 at #4 singles. McDivitt won 6-2, 6-3 over Allison Goo at #6.
Whitworth will continue its busiest road trip of the season when the Pirates travel to play Pacific on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm. The Pirates will conclude their swing with a match at defending champion Linfield on Sunday morning.
