SPOKANE, Wash. – Adam Shamion is in his fourth year as the Pirates’ defensive coordinator in 2021-22.

His first year was a great success as the Pirates led all of NCAA Division III in tackles for loss (111), setting a new school record.  Whitworth's defense also ranked among NCAA leaders in redzone efficiency and third down conversion percentage.  In 2019 the Pirates led the Northwest Conference in interceptions (19) and defensive touchdowns (3).

Shamion came to Whitworth after serving nine years as an assistant coach at Post Falls High School, the last five as defensive coordinator.  Additional roles at Post Falls included special teams coordinator and strength & conditioning coach.

Shamion was a starting middle linebacker at the University of Idaho.  He finished his Vandal career in 2009 and later earned a B.A. in University Studies.  While at Idaho, Shamion represented the football team on the department’s leadership council.

Shamion replaced Adam Richbart, who has stepped away from college coaching to return to his home with his family in upstate New York.

Following his time at Idaho, Shamion returned to Post Falls, where he had been a standout on the football, wrestling, track and baseball teams while in high school.  In addition to his duties with the football team, Shamion has been an assistant on the track and field team, coaching the throwers.

Shamion and his wife Leslie have one son, Lucas.
