Whitworth men finish tied for third at Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The Whitworth Pirates went toe-to-toe with some of the best NCAA Division III men's golf teams from around the country and the Pacific Northwest, finishing in a tie for third place at the Whitworth Chambers Bay Invitational on Sunday. 

Taking advantage of the opportunity to play on one of the premier public golf courses in the country, the Pirates posted a two-day score of 295-298 – 593 to finish in a tie with Linfield University, the 2025-26 Northwest Conference runners-up.

Sewanee University of the South, ranked seventh in the latest Division III coaches poll, won the tournament with a score of 572 (-4) by 19 strokes over 9th-ranked Aurora (591).  Whitworth and Linfield followed in the tie for third place, while 21st-ranked Willamette and Gustavus Adolphus (RV) tied for fifth place at 599.

Andrew Hobson was the Bucs' most consistent player and the only Pirate to finish among the top-ten individuals.  He tied for 8th place with four other players after shooting consecutive rounds of 74 for a total of 148 (+4).  James Doyle of Sewanee was the individual medalist with a final tally of 69-71 – 140 (-4).

Max Hosfeld had the biggest improvement of any Whitworth player in the second round, following up his 79 on Saturday with a 71 on Sunday to move up 12 places on the leaderboard into a tie for 14th place with a score of 150.  Mason Bradford and Kallen Maioho tied for 17th place with scores of 74-77 – 151 and 75-76 – 151, respectively.  After posting an even-par round on Saturday, Luke Nelson finished with a total of 72-82 – 154 to finish in 23rd position.

Whitworth will return to action on October 4th and 5th at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, hosted by Pacific University at Pumpkin Ridge GC in North Plains, Oregon.
