HELENA, Mont. – Whitworth women's soccer wrapped up its non-conference trip to Montana with a 1-0 loss to Carroll College on Sunday at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (1-2-2) finished with a 23-3 shot advantage to earn their first win of the season.
Despite the shot disparity, the Pirates (1-1) were competitive throughout as both teams struggled to find high quality looks at the net. Lily Cardenas provided one of those Whitworth chances early in the half but couldn't direct the ball on goal.
Carroll broke through in the 68th minute when Rachel McAllister was able to get behind the defense and score off a midfield pass from Carmen Anderson. Pirate goalkeeper Karlee Roderick kept the Bucs in the game with seven saves in the second frame. Hailey Herboth fired two shots on goal from distance to try to even the score, but both were saved.
McAllister and Delaney Moczan led the Saints with six total shots, with Moczan putting four on target. Maria Ackerman played the full match in net and made two saves.
Roderick played the full 90 minutes in net for the Bucs and matched a career-high ten saves.
Whitworth will begin Northwest Conference play next weekend against Lewis & Clark and Linfield at Whitworth Soccer Field.
