Whitman dominates Whitworth 18-7

SPOKANE, Wash. – A match-up that should have been close on paper turned into a run-away victory for visiting Whitman in a Northwest Conference lacrosse match on Wednesday evening at the Pine Bowl.  The Blues dominated virtually every aspect of the game on the way to an 18-7 win over the Pirates.

Whitman improves to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the NWC while Whitworth drops to 5-7, 1-2.  The Pirates will look to rebound when they host Linfield on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

Not only did the two teams come into the game with identical overall and conference records, but their scores over the season against common opponents were almost the same as well.

The Blues did not play as equals on Wednesday however, jumping to a 5-1 lead after one quarter and leading 9-4 at halftime.  Whitman put the game away with another 5-1 quarter in the third period to lead 14-5 and turned the game into a running clock with 11:32 to play.

The Blues outshot the Pirates 31-18, including a 22-11 edge in shots on goal.  They gained 23 ground balls to Whitworth's 13 and won 16 of 28 draw controls.

Whitman goalkeeper Renn Novack stopped nine shots while allowing only seven goals.  Three of the saves were on free-position shots.

Campbell Vincent scored four goals for the Pirates, while Peyton Green and Megan Whitman had a goal and assist apiece.  Megan Whitman also had five draw controls and three ground balls.

Sarah Hawkins dominated the match on offense for the Blues with six goals and five assists.  She also won five draws.  Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky added four goals and two assists.
