SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's tennis team extended its winning streak to five with a 6-1 win over Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates (5-2 overall, 5-1 NWC) swept doubles and won five of six singles matches. The Loggers fell to 2-8 overall and 2-4 in NWC play.
Olivia Corbett and Audrey Judson got the match started with a 6-2 win in the No. 3 doubles spot. Faith Kert and Clara Todd secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win and Paige Oliver and Jordan Turner-Esposito completed the sweep (6-4).
Each singles win for the Bucs was a dominant one. Josie Kellogg secured a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 5 position. Judson and Turner-Esposito allowed their opponent just two set points in their two-set wins. Kert claimed her fifth straight singles win by a score of 6-2, 6-1 and Oliver finished the scoring for Whitworth with a 6-2, 6-3 win on the No. 1 court. Judson and Kellogg are now 6-0 against NWC opponents.
Meredith Freiss defeated Hannah Wells 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 6 position to claim a point for Puget Sound.
The Pirate women will look to complete their third straight weekend sweep on Sunday when they host Willamette at 10:00 am.
