TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth track and field competed in strong form on Saturday at the Ed Bointano Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound. In a meet featuring dozens of teams and nearly 600 competitors, the Pirates won four women's events and two men's events.
Emily Brown won the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 56.85 and then led off the Pirates' 4x400 relay to a time of 4:10.97 (fourth place). Whitworth's 4x100 relay won with a time of 49.32. Akeelis Muhammed led off that relay and went on to finish third in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 12.40.
Kezlie Thygesen smashed her PR with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000 meters in 37:19.72. Lily Jones was fifth in the 800-meters (2:21.28) and sixth in the 1,500-meters (4:52.04).
In the field events, Devyn Chelin won the javelin throw with a distance of 132'-4". Madison Carr finished first in the hammer throw with a mark of 160'-10" with Kylie Loveless taking third (150'-1"). Amblessed Okemgbo was runner-up in the discus in 146'-11".
Claire Nardella cleared 10'-9" in the pole vault, only one inch off her PR, to take third.
Eddie Vu got a victory for the Whitworth men with a distance of 169'-3" in the discus. Aaron Cabrerra won the shot put with a mark of 42'-6.25" with Hunter Dahlstrom taking third (41'-2.25").
On the track, Hayden Malone earned a PR while taking second place in the 800-meters with a time of 1:57.99. London Haley finished third in the 10,000 with a time of 30:57.53, not far from his PR.
Connor Hylton finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 57.09. Brady Oletzke was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.21.
The Pirates' 4x100 relay took second place with a time of 41.51.
Whitworth's next outdoor meet will take place on Monday and Tuesday, March 16-17 while hosting the 2026 Buc Scoring and Combined Events meet.
