Whitworth women cruise to 6-1 win over Pacific (Ore.)

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Following a trip to California, Whitworth University claimed a 6-1 road win over Pacific (Ore.) in its return to Northwest Conference action on Saturday at Holce Tennis Courts.

The Pirates (9-6 overall, 7-2 NWC) swept the season series over the Boxers (6-7, 6-4 NWC) and remain in second place in the conference standings.

Whitworth claimed the doubles point with a pair of wins. Audrey Judson and Olivia Corbett continued their doubles dominance with their 11th straight win before Paige Oliver and Jordan Turner-Esposito secured the point with a 6-4 on the No. 2 court. Chloe Takahashi and Tiara Teung downed Clara Todd and Faith Kert on the No. 1 court to close the doubles session.

The Pirates won five of six singles matches, all in two sets. Corbett got things going with a 6-0, 6-2 win on the No. 5 court and Josie Kellogg remained unbeaten against NWC opponents with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 6 position. The most dominant singles win of the day came from Oliver, who defeated Takahashi 6-0, 6-2 to snap her six-match losing streak.

In a similar fashion to the teams' first match, Mia Yamaguchi earned the lone point for Pacific with a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) win, this time over Judson on the No. 4 court.

Whitworth will look to extend its winning streak to three on Sunday at Linfield. First serve is at 11:00 am.
