ORANGE, Calif. – Visiting Whitworth women's tennis opened its spring break road trip to California with a 6-1 loss to Chapman University on Sunday afternoon at Anderson Tennis Center.
The Pirates fell to 7-5 on the season as the Panthers (5-4) claimed victory with five singles wins and the doubles decision.
Josie Kellogg and Audrey Judson claimed a 7-5 doubles victory on the No. 3 court, but Chapman grabbed two narrow wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to secure the first match point.
The lone Whitworth match point was provided by Faith Kert in the No. 2 singles position. Kert defeated Lucy Wallin 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) in a three-set battle to avoid a sweep. The Panthers won each of their five singles matches in two sets. Paige Oliver put up the best fight with a 6-4, 6-3 loss on the No. 1 court. Judson had her 10-match singles winning streak snapped (6-0, 6-0) on the No. 4 court.
The Pirate women will look to bounce back on Monday against Redlands at noon.
