SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's tennis squad bounced back from an earlier loss to rival Whitman with a 4-3 win over NAIA opponent College of Idaho on Saturday evening at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates moved to 7-3 overall (6-2 NWC) and will host a rematch against Lewis-Clark State College on Sunday at 2:00 pm to close the three-match weekend.
Audrey Judson and Josie Kellogg earned a 6-2 win on the No. 3 doubles court to kick off the match, but the next two contests went to the Yotes (5-9 overall) as they claimed the doubles point.
Whitworth claimed four singles wins to secure a match win. Jordan Turner-Esposito battled a 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 3 position to even the match at a point. Coll. of Idaho's Lina Boylan took down Paige Oliver in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) to put the Yotes ahead before the Bucs won the next three matches. After dropping her first set, Faith Kert fought back for a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaking win in the No. 2 position. Judson handled her opponent 6-2, 6-3 on the No. 4 court before Kellogg clinched a Pirate match win with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 three-set victory in the No. 5 position. Elizabeth Sagehorn capped the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Hannah Wells (No. 6).
Judson and Kellogg will look to extend their singles match winning streaks to double digits on Sunday.
