PORTLAND, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth women's tennis earned its third straight victory with a statement 6-1 win over Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday afternoon at the L&C Tennis Dome.
The Pirates (3-2 overall, 3-1 NWC) swept doubles and won five of six singles matches to hand the River Otters (5-2, 3-1 NWC) their first NWC loss.
Jordan Turner-Esposito and Paige Oliver got the match going with a quick 6-1 win in the No. 2 doubles position. Faith Kert and Clara Todd followed with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot to secure the first match point. Audrey Judson and Olivia Corbett completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory.
Turner-Esposito claimed another point for the Bucs with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 position. Corbett (7-6, 6-2) and Josie Kellogg (6-2, 6-4) each took care of business with a pair of two set wins. Kert and Judson each battled their way to competitive three set wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, respectively.
Kellogg and Judson each moved to 4-0 against NWC opponents.
Lewis & Clark's Susanna Anand earned the lone Otter point of the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 1 position.
The Pirate women will look to extend their winning streak at George Fox on Sunday at 11:00 am.
