Men's tennis falls 6-1 to Whitman

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth men's tennis fell 6-1 to defending Northwest Conference champion Whitman College to open the 2026 conference schedule on Sunday at Scotford Tennis Center.

The Pirates (0-2 overall, 0-1 NWC) earned a singles point by way of impact freshman Connor Judson, while the Blues (1-1, 1-0 NWC) won their fourth consecutive battle with Whitworth.

Whitman quickly claimed the doubles decision with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Despite dropping the point, Ryan Ashley and Henry Preacher battled their way to an impressive 7-6 (7-1) comeback match win over the top Whitman pair after trailing 5-2 through the first seven set points.

The Pirates' lone point of the day was earned in the No. 4 singles match as Judson earned his first Whitworth career match win. After a 6-4 battle in the first set, Judson secured the victory with a dominant 6-0 second set. Matthew Morrison, who missed last week's season opener, returned to the top of the lineup at the No. 1 singles position and fell 6-0, 6-3 to Alexander Stage. Matt Froslan was edged 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) by Charles Boyden in a highly competitive No. 5 singles match to wrap up the afternoon.

The Pirate men will continue conference action with a trip to Oregon next weekend. The Bucs will take on Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday, February 21st and Linfield on Sunday, February 22nd.
