SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's soccer squad fell 2-0 to visiting Carroll College in its first official match of the season on Saturday at Whitworth Soccer Field.
The Pirates (0-1) had their share of offensive chances, but the Saints (2-1-1) capitalized on a pair of second half goals.
Each team had three shots in a defensive first half that yielded no goals. The Whitworth offense generated five corner kicks to Carroll's one but could not find the back of the net.
The Saints broke the tie midway through the second half. A strong shot from Cyrill Wangama slipped through the hands of Aidan Chase and was tapped in by Pedro Teixeira. Teixeira put the game out of reach with another goal in the 83rd minute.
Carroll outshot the Bucs 11-6 and had two more shots on goal (5-3). Jordan Voigt led Whitworth with a pair of shots on goal. Aiden Chase made three saves in net.
The Pirates will look to get their first win when they host Willamette on Saturday, September 20th and Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday, September 21st to open Northwest Conference play.
