Pirates close trip with 1-1 draw at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Whitworth battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at California Lutheran to close the women's soccer team's two-game non-conference trip.

The Pirates moved to 0-1-1 while the Regals ended the weekend at 1-0-1.

Cal Lutheran opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Sawyer Fry kept the ball in the box and dished a pass to Stephenie Hackett who found the bottom corner of the net. Just five minutes later, the Bucs answered. From just wide of the midfield circle, Katherine Kent sent a long free ball into the box that found Addison Dizard who poked it into the net through traffic.

The Regal offense brought the pressure with 25 shots in the match to Whitworth's five. Despite the relentless attack, the Pirate defense battled and held Cal Lutheran to just five shots on goal while putting three on net themselves. The Regals had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks but could not capitalize.

Whitworth's Karlee Roderick made her second start in net and saved four shots. Kelsey Slaugh made two saves for Cal Lutheran.

The Pirates finish non-conference play with a match against Carroll College in Spokane on Saturday, September 13th.
