SPOKANE, Wash. – Rebekah Hines' late goal drew Whitworth even in a 1-1 battle with visiting NAIA opponent Carroll College in a non-conference women's soccer match on Saturday at Whitworth Soccer Field.
The Pirates (0-1-2) played to draw for the second consecutive game while the Saints (2-0-1) were held out of the win column.
Carroll struck first just before the 15th minute when Ella Kuenzli found Delaney Moczan in the middle of the box who capitalized with a shot to the left side of the net.
Addison Dizard had a quality chance to tie halfway through the second half, but a key save kept the Saints in front. The Bucs broke through and answered in the 87th minute. Whitworth pushed the ball into the attacking third and the Saints forced a throw in. Lily Cardenas dropped the ball off to Hines who took her chance at an open shot from beyond the box and found the back of the net.
Carroll doubled up Whitworth in shots with 16. Five of the Pirates' eight shots were on net to the Saints' nine. Carroll had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Paige Broadrick got the start in net for the Bucs and made four saves. Karlee Roderick made four saves in the second half. Allison Olson and Maria Ackerman each made two saves for the Saints.
The Pirates open Northwest Conference play next weekend with a home match against Willamette on Saturday, September 20th and Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday, September 21st.
