SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University got two wins each by the men's and women's teams and Emily Brown kept her hopes alive of qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Whitworth Last Chance meet on Wednesday afternoon at Boppell Track.

Brown finished as runner-up in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 1:02.17, continuing her trend of improving her time each race over the last month of the season.  That time currently ranks 16th in NCAA Division III and would qualify her into the championships if selections were made today.

The Pirate women got a couple of wins and several other runner-up finishes.  Devyn Chelin won the women's javelin with a throw of 130'-0" and Shaloma McCay won the women's long jump with a personal record distance of 16'-7.25".

Madison Carr tied her personal record while finishing second in the women's hammer throw with a heave of 166'-11".  Amblessed Okembgo was runner-up in the discus with a distance of 141'-3".  Okembo also finished second in the shot put (45'-1.75") with Carr third (44'-8") and Kylie Loveless fourth (42'-1.25").

Jordyn Lungo took third place in the women's 100-meter dash (12.64).

Andrew Strawn won the men's pole vault with a personal record height of 15'-7" with Jared McCrory taking third with his own PR of 14'-7.25".

Luke Davis and Alex Smith finished first and second in the men's shot put with distances of 49'-7" and 45'-9", respectively.

Eddie Vu was runner-up in the men's discus with a throw of 171'-8" that was just under three feet short of his PR.

In his final meet as a Pirate, Levi Wood hit a PR in the men's 100-meter dash (11.14).

A handful of Whitworth athletes will compete this weekend at the Oregon Twilight (Friday) and Portland Twilight (Saturday) looking to make, or improve on, national qualifying marks.
